Philip Gatto is a founding member of DV8. The story goes that Phillip was at a Nightlife gig when he walked up to Chuck and Melissa and said, “You know, you guys suck – I play guitar WAY better than he does…” So Chuck asked Philip to audition for a new project they had coming up, and it turns out that Philip Gatto really COULD play. The rest as they say is history.
Philip never really listened to music growing up, and picked up the guitar at age 14. He was highly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Neal Schon. He would listen to recordings and found he could – with some practice – play what he heard.
Philip joined the United States Army between the ages of 20 and 23. After leaving the service he became a contractor and handyman helping people build their dreams ever since. He also kept playing and perfecting his guitar abilities and played in the basement with quite a few groups, but never before DV8 has he been in an organized group that played out on a regular basis. His talent and God given ability shines through with every DV8 performance.
Philips coolest moment as a musician: Playing with DV8 opening for the Doobie Brothers in front of 130,000 people.
Philips favorite quote: “I deeply believe everyone has a special purpose in life. But I wonder where a bull in a china shop belongs?”
